Trade Classification Systems
- HS (Harmonized System)Six-digit code system that allows participating countries to classify traded goods on a common basis for customs purposes. Developed by WCO.
- SITC (Standard International Trade Classification)Five-digit classification of commodities in external trade to provide the commodity aggregates for economic analysis and international comparison of trade-by-commodity data. Used often by UN and OECD.
- HTS (Harmonized Tariff Schedule)Ten-digit system (based on the HS) used to determine tariff classifications for goods imported into the United States. Maintained by the US International Trade Commission.
- Schedule B (Statistical Classification of Domestic and Foreign Commodities)The official schedule of commodity classifications to be used by shippers in reporting export shipments from the United States and in compiling the official export statistics. - NAICS (North American Industry Classification System)Six-digit industry classification system that is sometimes used in trade statistics databases.
