- Database of Award Winning Childrens LiteratureA searchable database that tracks the major childrens' book awards. Searchable by author, illustrator, topic, historical period, age of reader, language, type of book (picture, chapter, etc.). Use this database to find books of interest, then use Vikat to look them up in PSU Library.
- Caldecott MedalThe Caldecott Medal honors the artist of the most distinguished American picture book for children.
- Coretta Scott King AwardThe Coretta Scott King Award honors children and young adult authors and illustrators of African descent whose distinguished books promote an understanding and appreciation of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s "American Dream."
- Michael L. Printz AwardThe Michael L. Printz Award is chosen by the YALSA division of the American Library Association. The award winning title and honor titles exemplify literary excellence in young adult literature (ages 12-18).
- Mildred L. Batchelder AwardThe Batchelder Award is awarded to an American publisher for a children's book considered to be the most outstanding of those books originally published in a foreign language in a foreign country, and subsequently translated into English and published in the United States.
- Newbery MedalThe Newbery Medal honors the author of the most distinguished contribution to American literature for children.
- Pura Belpre AwardThe Belpre Medal honors a Latino/Latina writer and illustrator whose works best portray, affirm, and celebrate the Latino cultural experience in an outstanding work of literature for children and youth.
- Rainbow Book List - GLBTQ Books for Children & TeensThe Rainbow Book List is created by the Rainbow Book List Committee of the Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, and Transgender Round Table of the American Library Association. The Rainbow Book List presents an annual bibliography of quality books with significant and authentic GLBTQ content, which are recommended for people from birth through eighteen years of age.
- Young Reader's Choice AwardNominated titles are those published within the previous three years, printed in the U.S. or Canada, and are already favorites with readers. Only children, teachers, parents, and librarians in the Pacific Northwest are elligible to nominate titles.
Finding Award Books in the PSU Library
The PSU Library collects all of the major children's book award winners. The books are shelved on the 5th floor in the PZ call number section.
