MGMT 512 Organizational Management: Company Profiles

Research Tips

Public companies, especially those based in the US, tend to be easier to research as private companies in the US are not required to disclose much information, especially financials.

However, even for public companies, not all information is publicly available. Internal information such as HR policies, motivation strategies, company cultures, etc., are only available if the company opts to share, or if someone has written about it. Articles are the best publicly available source for such disclosures.

The Career section of the company website can reveal what the company values or at least claims to value. Also check out their social media channels.

Major corporate events or changes are also covered in the news, on the company website (on a page usually called News, Media, or Press Releases), and in corporate filings such as 10-K and 10-Q.

Websites like Glassdoor or Blind can offer a glimpse of company culture, although there is an inherent negative bias (grumpy employees tend to be more vocal about their experience).

Employee interviews definitely yield the most current information although do keep in mind that depending on the company size, your sample could be small.
