Finding Books

Search Portland State Library's catalog, WorldCat, for books, journals, videos, government information, music and other material owned by the Library. You may search by keywords, author, title or subject headings.

Remember, too, that you are not just limited to what we own in our Library. If you cannot find what you need in the our catalog or of the Orbis Cascade Alliance (Summit), then you can request them through Interlibrary Loan.

Find Books Using Subject Headings and Call Numbers

Subject Headings
Subject headings allow you to search library catalogs for materials on a particular topic. Often subject heading searching can be more productive than searching by simple keywords. Listed here are some major subject headings of interest for research in Mechanical and Materials Engineering. Copies of the complete set of the Library of Congress Subject Headings are available at the reference desk in the library.

Manufacturing Processes
Mechanical Engineering
Production Engineering

Call Numbers
Browsing the library shelves by call number ranges is another strategy for locating information on a topic; call numbers can help you get to the "right neighborhood" in the library stacks.

PSU Library Catalog - Books

Results include both print and ebooks, available from Portland State Library and the Summit Libraries.

Books from the Catalog

Requesting Items from Summit

When you find an item in the catalog, if you see Summit Libraries under Libraries that own this item:, that means that the book is not in our collection but is held at one of our partner libraries. You can request the book by clicking on the book's title and then selecting the Request Summit Item link on the next page. It takes approximately five days to receive an item through Summit.

Requesting Items through ILL

If a book you need for your research is not available in our collection or Summit, we can get it for you! Just request it through interlibrary loan. Please note: it can take up to 12 days to receive a book through interlibrary loan.
