Guide for Graduate Business Students: Books / Cases / HBR

Textbooks

  • The Library doesn't usually collect textbooks. However, if possible, we (the Library) put a copy of the textbook on Course Reserves at the request of the instructor. Check Course Reserves to see if there is a copy for your class.
  • If we need to buy a copy, we try our best to find a digital copy. However, not all publishers provide eBook licenses for libraries (different from the individual license for an eBook that you buy for yourself from Amazon or the publisher's website). Traditional publishers like McGraw-Hill typically don't offer library eBook licenses. In that case we buy a print copy.
  • If there isn't a copy on Course Reserves, feel free to email me to purchase one. However, please request at least 2-3 weeks in advance as shipping and processing takes time, especially at the beginning of the term.
  • We usually don't buy more than one copy per class as shelf space (shared by all PSU classes) is limited.

Cases

Harvard Business School (HBS) Cases are only available for purchase through a course pack link provided by your instructor.

HBR (Harvard Business Review) Articles

If you will use the HBR articles for a class (e.g, titles specifically assigned or suggested by the instructor), you must purchase them through a course pack link provided by your instructor. This is Harvard's policy. They do monitor the usage and violations can lead to a disruption of access, complaints, or even law suits.

However, you can read HBR articles for your own research and enjoyment.
