Data vs. Statistics:

While the two words are often used interchangeably, in the strictest sense, they are different:

  • Data: the raw information out of a study. For example, survey results showing each participant's choice/answer to each question.
  • Statistics: the analyzed/processed results of data. For example, "the survey shows that 80% of the participants chose Yes to Question A".

Most of the library databases contain statistics rather than raw data. The guide suggests a few sources that provide raw datasets, although there is no guarantee that raw data are available on a given topic.
