Articles  & Book Chapters An important aspect of literary research is to explore the criticism and other scholarship that has been done on your topic. This scholary communictation takes the form of journal articles, books and book chapters. The resources listed on this page identify the databases, search engines and current awareness publications which help you identify publications.

Reviews - What was the critical reception of a particular book in popular or scholarly publications. These resources identify where book reviews were published.

Biographical Sources -  Resources, search engines and strategies for finding material about an author.

Dissertations and Masters Theses - Sometimes the earliest scholarly work on an author, a work, a theory or a topic will be produced through a dissertation or thesis.  Search engines for identifying dissertations and theses.

Encyclopedias, Dictionaries, Reference Works - Reference sources such as encyclopedias, dictionaries, handbooks, chronologies, etc. are excellent for getting up to speed quickly. They provide quick facts, introductions,  summaries, chronologies, scholalry vocabulary, and outlines of a topic situating it in its broader or narrower contexts.
