ELP 525 - Student Services in Higher Education: Home
Welcome
This guide will provide provide links to resources that will be helpful for your research and study in ELP 525.
Required texts:
-
McClellan, G.S., & Stringer, J. (Eds.) (2016). The handbook of student affairs administration (4th ed.). San Francisco, CA: Jossey-Bass. (specific chapters as assigned)
- American Psychological Association. (2020). Publication manual of the American Psychological Association (7th ed.). Washington, DC: American Psychological Association. Two print copies are available at the PSU Library: one on Course Reserves (short-term checkout via 1st floor Circulation Desk) and one in Ready Reference (2nd floor).
Note: There are numerous APA style resources available online; none are as comprehensive as the manual itself, but they can help resolve a simple formatting question in a pinch. Purdue's Online Writing Lab (Purdue OWL) provides a fairly thorough list of examples for types of cited sources. (Ignore the automatic citation generator, the citation machine.) The APA Style website provides tutorials, overviews, a blog, and lots of quick answers on APA format style questions.
Organizations
Professional associations play one of the most significant roles in supporting professionals in their education, their work, and their continuing education. Professional association web sites provide access to association newsletters, standards, publications, all manner of other relevant information and networking. Many organizations publish research journals. Most of those will be indexed in a disciplinary database such as ERIC*, but getting to know a journal (and by extension the issues in the field) by browsing is a good practice. As well as links to the association web sites, here are links to PSU Library's holdings of the association journals we subscribe to. These web sites will be very helpful for background knowledge to support your Functional Area Presentation assignment.
