Using AND or OR in the PSU Library Catalog

Use AND or OR to refine your search. You will need to capitalize these words in order for them to work as Boolean operators:

plastics AND oceans - AND combines keywords

wages OR paychecks - OR provides a broader search for synonyms or words that have the same meaning.

If you have any questions or need help, Ask a Librarian.

Searching Tips!

Use quotation marks to search for a keyword phrase:

"high school"

"closed campus"

"restaurant proximity"

Use the asterisk * to replace a suffix or the end of the word to retrieve related keywords:

rac* will retrieve race, racism, racist

schedul*  will retrieve schedule, scheduler, scheduling

If you have any questions about these searching techniques, be sure to Ask a Librarian!
