Database Tutorial: Wharton Research Data Services (WRDS): Eligibility & Access/Account Types
Access Types
WRDS is available to current PSU faculty, staff, and students only. Alumni and public users are not eligible. Access types below:
IP-based Access: ** recommended if you are doing quick research and need data immediately.
- Wharton Research Data Services (WRDS)IP-based access. After logging in with your PSU ID, you will get a 3-day Access Pass. You can log in again and get another one after the previous pass expires.
Account-based Access: individual accounts are for users that need additional features not available via IP-based access (e.g., query history). Registration requests are reviewed/approved by WRDS reps, usually within 1 business day. For class use, undergraduate students need to obtain the class login from their professor.
Register for a WRDS Account: use your PSU email in the request form and choose the most appropriate account type from the list below
Class:
- One account for the whole class (up to 15 simultaneous users)
- The professor will request a class account and share it with students. Expires end of the semester.
Faculty:
- Individual account. Unlimited access via Web, SSH, FTP, 10 GB permanent disk storage.
- Expires after 5 years. Renewable.
Staff:
- Individual account. Unlimited access via Web, SSH, FTP, 10 GB permanent disk storage.
- Expires after 5 years. Renewable.
Ph.D. student:
- Individual account. Unlimited access via Web, SSH, FTP, 10 GB permanent disk storage.
- Expires after 2 years. Renewable.
Research Assistant:
- Individual account. Unlimited access via Web, SSH, FTP, 10 GB permanent disk storage.
- Expires after 2 years.
Masters/Undergraduate Student:
- Individual account. Web access only.
- Expires after 2 years.
Visiting Faculty:
- Individual account. Unlimited access via Web, SSH, FTP, 10 GB permanent disk storage.
- Expires after 1 year.
