ENG 500: Problems and Methods of Literary Study : Textual Scholarship and Criticism

This guide links to resources that will be useful to you throughout your graduate work at PSU, but especially focuses on research to support the bibliography assignment in Dr Murpuri's 'Problems and Methods of Literary Study', Fall 2017.

Publishing & Textual History through the library catalog

To find scholarly works on the textual and publishing history of a particular work or the works of a particular author, in the Library's catalog, add the term

"critical edition"

or the term "facsimilie edition" to the author name when you search.

Add the term "bibliography" to a subject search on your work to pull up authoritative comprehensive bibliographies on the work which you would expect to include works on textual history as well as criticism.

Add the subject term "authorship" to your work or to your author as a subject; e.g.

Melville, Herman, 1819-1891 -- Authorship

add the subject term "criticism, textual" to your author as a subject; e.g.

Shelley, Mary Wollstonecraft, 1797-1851  -- Criticism, Textual.
